About Us
In 1977, after starting in an entry level position with the local Caterpillar dealer, Bob Luby
co-founded Machine Maintenance and Equipment Company, a business that repaired heavy industrial machinery. With
his direction and background Luby lead the company toward the heavy equipment distribution business. Our first
products were Gardner Denver compressors, drills and related industrial equipment. We eventually became a
dealer for Ingersoll-Rand water well drills, down hole hammers and high pressure compressors. We supplied
these products to the water well drillers and eventually the oil field industry during the late 70's and
early 80's.
Luby and his staff at our oil field headquarters in Ft. Smith, Arkansas developed this oil field service
business. We supply the Arkoma and Permian Basin oil fields with hammer tool rental and bits. The company also
rents high pressure compresssors and boosters on an operated basis to oil field operators and contractors and
rent fork lifts for utility and rig up work.
Meanwhile, the business in St. Louis had grown toward construction equipment distribution. In 1989, Luby
purchased the asset of Bi-State Machinery Company from FiatAllis, which put Luby into the heavy equipment
business. In 1992, Luby purchased the asset of Case Power and Equipment, allowing us to offer a full line of
Case construction equipment in the St. Louis and Cape Girardeau markets. Luby later purchased E.M. Chatten,
the Case dealer, in Quincy, Illinois.
Today, as Luby Equipment Services, with headquarters in Fenton and branch locations in Quincy, Illinois,
O' Fallon, Missouri, Caseyville, Illinois and Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Luby has evolved into one of the
largest equipment dealers in the area.
Luby sells, rents and services Case and Daewoo excavators with buckets and breakers, Case and Takeuchi
mini-excavators and tack and wheeled compact loaders, along with dozers, crawler loaders, rubber-tired
loaders, loader backhoes, motor graders and off-highway trucks. Luby supplies Astec trenchers and drills to
utility contractors and Morbark chippers and Rayco stump grinders to the tree and forestry market. Luby
offers GME trench shoring boxes to excavation contractors. All of the above is available for rent with
the option to purchase. Our industrial division offers the industrial market Generac stand-by generators
and Gardner Denver stationary compressors.
Luby's current emphasis is on filling the need for good late model equipment for the rental market.
The rental business will be our future and the future of the industry, both in construction equipment and
oil field equipment.
